ROUGH ITINERARY:

You'll have to fly between between Lima and Cusco. Cusco is high in the Andes (you really feel the altitude!) and Lima is on the coast. You could swap things around and do Lima for a few nights first and then Cusco and Machu Picchu afterwards.

28 Dec - 31 Dec (3 nights): Cusco

-
You'll land in Lima and then take a short flight to Cusco (1.5 hrs).
-
Cusco is a really beautiful city (Travis and I were here in 2020).
-
Things to do: Rainbow mountain, wander the old town and explore some markets. Tap here for some Cusco pics.

Accommodation:

31 Dec - 2 Jan (2 nights): Machu Picchu

-
It's a 2hr bus then 2hr train to get to Machu Picchu. Maybe not the best idea to travel on NYE, so we can swap dates.
-
Things to do: Visit one of the new Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu!

2 Jan - 5 Jan (3 nights): Lima

-
It'll be a solid journey back to Cusco and then a flight back to Lima. There aren't a tonne of epic sights in Lima and the beaches aren't great (better for surfing), but it is a cool city to visit. Maybe 2 nights would be enough.
-
Things to do: Eat insanely tasty food, wander through the old town and do a Pisco sour tasting!
